CRAFTSMANSHIP

Every Greyweave rug carries a story — one that begins long before it reaches your floor. From the first design sketch to the final knot, each piece is a thoughtful journey of creativity, craftsmanship, and care.

Rooted in Rajasthan’s rich weaving traditions, our rugs are handwoven by skilled artisans whose quiet mastery has been passed down through generations. Their hands work patiently with natural yarns, translating heritage techniques into designs that feel relevant, refined, and contemporary.

At Greyweave, tradition meets modern sensibility. Clean lines, balanced palettes, and timeless textures come together to create rugs that complement today’s interiors while honoring age-old craft. Every rug is made with intention — not rushed, not replicated — but woven with purpose, precision, and pride.

What results is more than a floor covering. It’s a piece of living art that brings warmth, depth, and soul into modern homes — designed to be lived on, loved, and passed forward as part of your home’s evolving story.

Where every knot holds a story

HAND-KNOTTED RUGS

The making of a hand-knotted rug is a journey of time, patience, and artistry — over 4,500 hours of human skill and devotion.

Every rug carries with it the story of the artisans behind it — generations of weavers whose craft supports families, education, and communities. Each Greyweave rug is not just Made in India — it’s Proudly Woven by Hand.

1. Hand Carding

Raw, shorn wool is carefully detangled and cleaned by hand. Using traditional carders — flat paddles with fine teeth — the fibres are teased and aligned, preparing them for spinning.

2. Spinning

The wool fibres are spun into continuous lengths of yarn using a spinning wheel. The spinner’s hands control the twist and tension, giving each strand its unique strength and character.

3. Designing & Graphing

Inspired by global and local influences, our designers translate stories into patterns. Each rug design is then meticulously mapped by artisans, guiding every knot on the loom with precision.

4. Dyeing & Sun Drying

Yarn is dyed using the traditional pot dyeing technique — where pigments are mixed by hand to achieve perfect hues. The dyed yarns are then sun-dried for 48 hours to let the colours mature naturally.

5. Weaving & Washing

At the loom, artisans tie thousands of knots, row by row — a process that can take months. Once complete, the rug is washed with an herbal solution and sun-dried to tighten the weave and enhance softness.

6. Trimming, Carving & Finishing

The rug is trimmed and carved by hand to refine the pattern and texture. Finally, the borders are bound, fringes tied, and the rug is thoroughly inspected — ready to bring timeless craft into your space.

THE HANDS BEHIND THE WEAVE

At the heart of Greyweave are the artisans — generations of skilled makers whose hands carry the memory of ancient looms. Their craft sustains families, traditions, and communities.

Each Greyweave rug is a tribute to them — a reminder that true luxury lies in the time, care, and human touch behind every weave.
